The Government of Guyana established Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) in March 2002 after the parliament passed the Civil Aviation Act in 2000. It was formerly known as the Civil Aviation Department and came under the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (Ministry of Works). There are several aviation acts, including the Civil Aviation (Air Navigation) Regulations 2001, Air Transport (Licensing of Air Transport Services) Regulations 2001, the Civil Aviation (Security) Regulation 200, Civil Aviation (Air Traffic Services and Rules of the Air) Regulations 2006, and the Civil Aviation Act (2018). GCAA manages and regulates the aviation sector in Guyana per these laws.
