Most Florida student pilots end up in one of three arrangements: a furnished room rented through a housing provider that caters to flight students, a shared apartment split with classmates, or a conventional lease near the airport. Published rates for furnished, flight-student rooms run from roughly $650 to about $1,680 per person per month, depending on whether you share, how long you commit and how close you live to the field. The right choice is the one that keeps you within a short, reliable trip of the flight line at dawn, on a lease that matches the length of your training.
This guide walks through the options, the real price ranges from published rate sheets, what is usually included, how to judge a location, the lease questions to ask, and the extra rules that apply to international students on an M-1 visa.
TL; DR
- Expect roughly $650 to $1,160 per person per month for shared rooms and about $995 to $1,680 for private furnished rooms, with longer commitments lowering the monthly rate.
- Live within 5 to 10 minutes of the training airport if you can; early lessons and rideshare surge pricing make distance expensive.
- Confirm what the rent includes (furniture, utilities, Wi-Fi, housekeeping) and budget separately for air conditioning, transport and move-in deposits.
- International students need an FAA Part 141 or Part 142 program that is approved for M-1 enrollment before housing is finalized.

The housing options available to Florida student pilots
Florida’s flight-training airports sit in very different housing markets, from beach-adjacent Vero Beach and St. Augustine to the larger metro areas around Tampa, Orlando and Fort Lauderdale. Whatever the city, the choices fall into four practical categories.
Furnished rooms marketed to flight students. Some local housing operators rent by the room, with furniture, utilities and Wi-Fi bundled into one monthly figure and no long-term contract at the shortest term. These are the simplest to arrange from a distance, which is why international students and career-changers moving from other states often start here.
Shared apartments. Un relat d'estudiant de Lakeland descriu paying about $650 per person in a shared apartment, and roughly $700 to $800 a month once utilities were added. That is one individual’s experience, not a market average, but it is a useful sanity check against what you are quoted.
Conventional apartments. A standard lease gives you the most choice of neighborhood, but it typically comes with more paperwork. A University of Central Florida off-campus guide notes that conventional apartments commonly require a guarantor, proof of finances and tenant-arranged electricity and internet, mentre que els apartaments orientats a estudiants solen oferir lloguers individuals i serveis bàsics.
School-linked or on-site arrangements. Hem establert les diferències entre la residència presencial, compartida i fora del campus a la nostra guia per a opcions d'allotjament per a estudiants pilot, and our page on student pilot housing that keeps training on track covers how we think about the decision.
The category matters less than the fit. A private room that is 8 minutes from the airport on a flexible term will often serve a fast-track student better than a cheaper apartment 40 minutes away on a twelve-month lease.
What student pilot housing costs in Florida
Rates vary by city, season and how many people share a room. The published figures below come from housing operators and a rate sheet rather than from a single survey, so treat them as a range and confirm current pricing directly.
| Disposició | Published rate | Context d'origen |
|---|---|---|
| Private bedroom, same sheet | $1,519 to $1,679 per student per month | Same 2025 rate sheet |
| Habitació privada moblada amb bany privat, St. Augustine | $1,450 month-to-month, $1,295 for 3 to 5 months, $1,150 for 6 to 9 months, $995 for 10 to 12 months | Marvento’s student pilot housing page |
| Habitacions dobles seleccionades, St. Augustine | From $650 per student | Same page |
| Shared apartment, Lakeland | About $650 per person, $700 to $800 with utilities | A March 2026 student account |
Three patterns stand out.
Utilities and cooling can change the total. The Lakeland account specifically warns that air conditioning is a significant cost in a Florida summer. A rent that excludes utilities can look cheaper than a bundled one until August arrives.
The same operator says its flight-student rate starts at $995 per month with no long-term contract required for the base arrangement. Not every provider bundles this much, so ask for a line-by-line list.
Before you compare two quotes, confirm each of the following:
- Mobles i roba de llit: llit, escriptori, estris bàsics de cuina.
- Electricity, water and internet, and whether any are capped.
Then add the costs that rarely appear in the rent line:
- Move-in cash. Florida Atlantic University’s international-student guidance tells renters to check deposits and first and last month’s rent before signing, alongside furnishing, utilities and transport. That can mean two or three months of rent due before you fly your first lesson.
- Transport.
A reasonable planning method is to take the all-in monthly housing figure, add a transport allowance, and multiply by the number of months you expect to train plus a buffer for weather and checkride scheduling.
How to judge a location: distance, transport and daily needs
A Vero Beach relocation guide from a local housing operator says its nearest properties are 5 to 10 minutes from the airport by car, some close enough to bike in good weather, with Publix, Walmart and restaurants along US-1 nearby. The same guide suggests students may buy a used car or share rides for errands. The takeaway applies beyond Vero Beach: proximity to the airport can stand in for owning a car at the start, but groceries and general errands may still make a car or a ride-sharing arrangement worth having.
- Drive time at the hour you will actually leave. Revisa-ho a les 6 del matí i a l'hora punta, no al migdia.
- Backup transport. If you share a car with a roommate or rely on rideshare, what happens when both of you have early lessons?
- Groceries and pharmacies within a short drive. Publix, Walmart or similar stores should not require a rideshare.
- Tranquil·litat i son. Early flying rewards a reliable night’s rest, so noise, roommates’ schedules and air conditioning reliability count.
- Study space.
Florida’s reputation for flyable weather is one reason so many students train here, but it also means long, hot summers and afternoon storms. Housing that is cool, close and flexible suits the training rhythm better than a bargain that costs you an hour a day in transit.
Housing contracts are where good intentions get expensive. Before committing, work through these points.
Match the term to your program. La nostra guia per a fixed-price flight training in 2026 explains how a defined program scope makes that planning more predictable.
Ask about individual versus joint leases. The UCF guide distinguishes student apartments, which commonly offer individual leases, from conventional apartments. With an individual lease, a roommate leaving does not make you responsible for their share. With a joint lease, it can.
Understand the deposit and the exit. Ask how much is due at signing, what is refundable, and what notice is required if your plans change. Month-to-month terms cost more, but they limit what you owe if a medical, visa or scheduling issue disrupts training.
Comenceu aviat. The UCF guide recommends signing about four months before the desired move-in date because properties close to campus fill quickly. Housing near a small airport works the same way: the best-located rooms go first, especially ahead of the winter training season and before large class intakes.
Verify the property yourself.
M-1 visa students: housing and enrollment in the right order
- Confirm that the school is SEVP-certified and that your specific program is approved for M-1 students.
Furnished, utilities-included rooms are especially practical on arrival, because you can land without a credit history, a car or a furniture budget. For the full enrollment sequence, see our explanation of M-1 visa requirements for international flight training students and our walkthrough on Com s'inscriuen els estudiants internacionals a la formació de vol de l'M-1. FAU’s international-student guidance is also a useful checklist: distance to school, move-in cash, furnishing, utilities and transport are the criteria it treats as core.
La nostra perspectiva
Over years of watching students start training, we have seen the same pattern: the pilots who finish on schedule are rarely the ones who found the cheapest bed. They are the ones who removed friction from their mornings.
A fast-track program is built on momentum. Our Part 141 programs are designed so that stage checks and in-house FAA checkrides, through our Self Examining Authority, do not leave you waiting on an outside examiner’s calendar. That advantage only pays off if you can fly on the days the schedule and the weather allow. A 45-minute commute, an unreliable ride or a lease you cannot leave turns a compressed timeline into an expensive one.
So we encourage students to treat housing as part of the training budget, not an afterthought. Choose a place close to the airport, a lease term that tracks your program length, and a total monthly figure that includes transport and cooling. Then ask the fixed-price question about your living costs too: what is certain, what can drift, and who carries the difference?

Housing is usually the second-largest line in a pilot’s training budget after tuition, and the two interact. A shorter, structured program reduces the number of months you pay rent. Waiting for an outside checkride slot extends it. When you compare programs, ask not only what the course costs but how long it realistically takes from first lesson to checkride, because each extra month adds rent, utilities and transport.
Una fitxa de treball senzilla ajuda a:
- Estimate program length in months, with a weather buffer.
- Multiply by the all-in monthly housing figure, including utilities and air conditioning.
- Add a monthly transport allowance.
- Add one-time move-in costs and deposits.
- Compare the total across two or three housing options, not just the monthly rent.

Training programs we offer
If you are planning a move to Florida for a career in the airlines, we publish two program prices so you can budget with housing in mind.
If you would rather talk through your timeline first, start from our Pàgina principal and tell us where you are in the process. We will help you map a realistic training window so you can sign housing for the right number of months.
FAQ
Quant costa l'allotjament per a estudiants pilots a Florida?
Published figures range from about $650 per student for selected double-occupancy rooms to roughly $1,680 for a private bedroom on a premium rate sheet. Shared rooms in a 2025 Vero Beach sheet run $1,039 to $1,159, and a St. Augustine operator lists private rooms between $995 and $1,450 depending on term. Confirm current rates with the provider.
Sharing is generally cheaper per person. On one 2025 Vero Beach sheet, private bedrooms cost roughly $400 to $500 more per month than shared ones. If sleep, study space and early schedules matter to you, a private room can be worth it, but price both over your full program length.
How far ahead should I look for housing?
What should international students arrange first, housing or enrollment?
